Our Story

MetaWear was conceived in 2012 when founder and ECOfashion pioneer, Marci Zaroff, was navigating the supply chain for her sustainable apparel brand, Under the Canopy. She recognized the challenge many ethical brands were facing at the time—a struggle to develop a fully transparent story and connect the dots between farmer, mill, dyehouse, manufacturer and distributor.

Since 2012, MetaWear has built an extensive, well vetted vertically integrated supply chain in India. Equipped for both low and high volume production of all textile categories, MetaWear has specialists on the ground to oversee product development, inspection and quality control. We provide our customers with a fully transparent manufacturing experience at every stage, and a marketing toolkit to talk about it.

Dedicated to implementing the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certification that she helped bring to life, Marci built a network of US-based and international factories capable of producing GOTS-compliant garments and accessories. MetaWear’s first factory in Virginia is the manifestation of her vision: a vertically-integrated, turnkey operation, producing GOTS and Cradle-to-Cradle certified apparel that is cut, sewn, dyed, printed, and embroidered under one roof.
