Farm to Table dining has awakened consumers into thinking about where things come from, including their textiles. Collaborating with MetaWear means knowing the full history of your product, beginning with the farmer. And while that may simply feel like the right thing to do, being able to share the faces and places behind your brand is a priceless marketing tool. We welcome you to share the story of the hardworking individuals that comprise our responsible supply chain.
For our domestic manufacturing, we work with an organic farm cooperative called the Texas Organic Marketing Co-op that comprises over 40 certified organic farmers. In doing so, we keep jobs in the US and revitalize air, soil, water and human health. Most of the world’s organic cotton is milled and manufactured abroad where labor is cheapest. MetaWear aims to expand organic cotton agriculture in America. This protects human and environmental health as well as jobs here at home.
One of our key international manufacturing platforms is in India where we will also be sourcing regenerative organic transitional cotton from farmers who have joined our cotton improvement program, RESET. We work with farmers to train them in regenerative organic farming practices which build soil health, sequester carbon, and remove toxic chemicals from the farms and surrounding communities. Our program and our standard address social, economic, and environmental issues that have been afflicting India’s cotton belt and its farmers for decades.
We currently procure NOP-certified organic cotton from well-vetted farm projects that meet our standards, and our vertically-integrated supply chain in India is managed by our highly experienced and dedicated team on the ground.
We only work with knitting mills that share our core values and meet the highest standards of excellence in ethical production. Our partners in the United States and overseas are always looking to raise the bar on environmental and social accountability. Our core team is committed to managing product development and quality control with the ultimate care.
We have multiple manufacturing solutions in the United States and India. To meet demand, we are working to expand into a new factory in North Carolina with a long history of U.S. apparel manufacturing. We look forward to providing fulfilling work for the skilled sewers in that area.
In Virginia, our solar and geothermal-powered factory offers a vertically integrated solution that keeps logistics simple and our carbon footprint small. With in-house cutting, sewing, screen printing, and embroidery, our entire, efficient operation stays under one roof.
What’s more, our dedication to renewable energy and water stewardship means that we operate with closed-loop production, recycling hot wastewater to heat our dyebaths. When we finally send water back to the treatment plant, it actually helps neutralize other wastewater.
MetaWear’s factory is the first Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)-approved manufacturing plant in North America.
Our Factory Workers
In our domestic platform, we have committed to creating over 200 domestic jobs over the next 5 years, while helping underserved communities via workforce development and women’s empowerment programs. At our Virginia factory, MetaWear currently partners with Fairfax County Jail’s work-release program to help rehabilitate members of the community who have fallen on hard times. This is another example of MetaWear’s passion for driving social justice and building win-win paradigms.
